“Nuclear
Energy Update” Dr. Jasmina Vujic Professor &
Chair, Nuclear Engineering Dept., UC Berkeley |
|||||
|
This talk will discuss the technical challenges and
opportunities requiring a
long-term strategy in building research capabilities and teaming among
international and national laboratories, universities & industry to achieve
global sustainable nuclear energy benefits. At the beginning of the 21st
century the world faces considerable energy & environmental
challenges. Almost one-third of the world’s population has no access to
electricity. Fossil fuels will continue to be a major source of energy in
the future, unless more environmental and sustainable sources are
available. Developed countries are concerned about energy security and
energy independence, and nuclear energy will play a significant and
increasing role in the world’s energy mix. However, several obstacles
must be overcome, including safe disposal of spent fuel & proliferation
prevention. AGENDA: 5:00 – 6:00 Networking 6:00 – 6:30 Announcements 6:30 – 8:00 Presentation VENUE: Scott’s Seafood Bar &
